First Look: Inside Monsoon's New Addition

15 years after bringing a modern Vietnamese menu to a still quiet strip of 19th Ave. in Capitol Hill, Monsoon officially reopens its Capitol Hill outpost today with a brand new addition. An 800-square-foot bar now sits south of the original dining room, bringing 40 more seats to the restaurant that are split between bar stools, a communal table, and two tops next to street-facing windows.

While minors are welcome in the original eating area, the new bar is reserved for the 21+ crowd. The same menu will service the entire space, and while it remains mostly untouched, owners Eric and Sophie Banh have tacked on several chilled seafood offerings (dressed up halibut and bay scallop ceviche, oyster shooters, razor clams.)

The bar program headed up by Jon Christiansen is debuting a fresh set of drinks, including a summery Uyeda Cocktail with watermelon juice, shōchū, gomme syrup, and lime. Plus, a handful of sans alcohol options like a Dilly Elixer with dill syrup, celery bitters, and soda. Happy hour drinks will be poured from 3 to 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to midnight daily.
