What a Drag: Brunching on Tic Tacs and Glitter with Mama Tits

Welcome back to Open Wide, a monthly column from KIRO Radio's Rachel Belle that explores the eating habits of Seattle notables.

Until recently, Mama Tits was known as the fierce, six-foot-six, seven-feet-tall-in-heels, drag queen who hosts the city's longest running drag brunch at the Unicorn. But at Seattle Pride 2014, while acting as parade announcer, Mama Tits made international headlines when she stood up to sign-holding, loudly-protesting, anti-gay Christians. "You have no power here!" she roared from under her electric blue bouffant, tits-to nose with the head protestor. "Be gone before someone drops a house on you!"

Damn. After a standing ovation confrontation like that, a girl's gotta eat. Eater chatted with Mama Tits about what's on her plate these days.

You host the drag brunch show, Mimosas With Mama, every Sunday at the Unicorn in Capitol Hill. What's your ultimate brunch?

Before I changed my diet, my favorite brunch food was chicken fried steak with buttery love hash browns and with some scrambled, sloppy, not too hard, eggs. That was my perfect thing. With a little side of toast and a glass of chocolate milk followed by a little chaser of OJ. That was my favorite fat girl brunch. But now that I eat a little bit better, a nice little bit of steak and some decent egg whites and a lovely bit of fresh fruit would be perfect for me.

What's your favorite breakfast cocktail?
My cocktail is the Mamamosa. It's a mandarin vodka, I prefer Absolut mandarin because the flavor is so simple and clean, with some lovely champagne and some orange juice. It is the best kickstart, wholesome breakfast you'll ever have in an adult libation. And we can get you white girl wasted after three of them!

You have two personas: Mama Tits, the drag queen, and Brian, your male self. Do Mama and Brian like to eat different things?
Mama Tits eats Tic Tacs and glitter. That's it. You will never see her eat because her makeup is so impeccable that she just can't take a chance. She doesn't even like people kissing her on her face. She's an air-kiss kind of girl. But for Brian, I'll get down and dirty and ugly with some food. Food is one of my biggest most amazingest loves, aside from my husband and my two little puppies.

You live, and often work, on Capitol Hill. Is there a place drag queens like to hang out?
It used to be the Grill on Broadway. It was kind of the place that every drag queen, and every homo this side of the Mississippi, would always swing in. But unfortunately that got ran into the ground so we don't have that place anymore. Wanna know where you can run into everyone? Rancho Bravo! It's the funniest thing. Everybody who's anybody. Before a show, after a show, late night, drunk, after work, whatnot. You can run into everyone at Rancho Bravo!

What is your favorite restaurant on The Hill?
My favorite place, if I want to have a really fun, fancy dinner and have really great conversations and cocktails, is Poppy. I really enjoy the owner and the staff. Another really good place I love, if I want really good naughty fair food, I always go to the Unicorn. The Unicorn is my favorite sinful indulgence.
