Nate's Wings and Waffles, the new Rainier Beach restaurant from Darren McGill (Happy Grillmore) and Nate Robinson (NBA) launches later this month. The chicken and waffles concept, originally called Fat's, was initially a partnership between McGill and Marcus Lalario (Li'l Woody's.) The business partners split amicably earlier this year, with Lalario keeping the name and McGill hanging onto the recipes and space. Last month came word that McGill brought on Robinson as an owner and changed the name to Nate's after the pro basketball player who grew up close to the restaurant.
McGill is hosting a waffle tasting preview night and a meet and greet with Robinson on September 20. McGill tells Eater that the event is open to the public with limited seating and will include tastes from a sample menu. The full food list, featuring wings with five different sauces, bacon rosemary waffles with fried chicken, and Vietnamese pandan waffles will start up Tuesday, September 23.
