Caprial and John Pence, the pair behind several PDX restaurants, including Caprial's Bistro which they ran for almost two decades, have relocated to Seattle. Caprial, who's written nine cookbooks and hosted the PBS cooking show "Caprial and John's Kitchen,"just accepted a post as Executive Chef at Bookstore Bar & Cafe in the Alexis Hotel downtown.
The chef told Eater PDX earlier today that the chance was too good to let go: "Seattle is like a second home to us. We started here, we have lots of friends here. And they lobbied hard for us to move."
Caprial was the first ever recipient of the James Beard Award for Best Chef Northwest, an honor she received during a stint at the now shuttered Fuller's at Seattle's Sheraton Hotel & Towers in 1990. She's revamping Bookstore's menu, adding house-made pastrami, pancetta, and more.
