CAPITOL HILL—The Old Sage turns one today, which just happens to be the same day as the Seahawks regular season opener. To double celebrate, the restaurant is hosting an anniversary/Seahawks party. On the menu: pulled pork shoulder with New Mexico chilis, greens, potato salad with fermented pickles and urfa biber, and late-summer salad with tomatoes, charred cucumbers, peaches, and flowering herbs. Snacks are free, but since it's illegal to serve free booze the punch—spiked with Monkey Shoulder scotch, Cocchi Americano, and Angostura bitters—costs a few bucks. [EaterWire]
CRIMEWIRE—Tacoma's Hilltop Kitchen was tagged Wednesday. But instead of racial or ethnic slurs, the words "f**k you yuppies" and "gentrified" were spray painted on the windows of the eatery, reports KOMO. Hilltop Kitchen's owner suspects his restaurant was sought out because of "keyboard warriors" "who have posted negative things online about the upscale and hip customers who frequent the business." HOP SCHOOL— San Diego's Stone Brewing Co. is flying its brewmaster and lead brewer to Seattle for a hops class at The Pine Box. First up at the Monday, September 15, event: A lesson about the "sight, smell and taste of hops," and a beer tasting. Next: a "beat the brewers" cornhole competition. The $25 event includes four beers, call 206-588-0375 to reserve a spot. [EaterWire]
