Casco Antiguo quietly opened last night in the former Calozzi's space on Occidental Ave. S. The Mexican restaurant and cantina from Altstadt's Harvey Ward Van Allen is arranged around a central kitchen led by former Saint chef Rodolfo Riveron. A dining room sits in front of the space with a bar pouring mezcal and margaritas on tap in back.
While the restaurant serves chorizo sopes and fish tacos with mango salsa till 10 p.m., Van Allen tells Eater that the cantina will stay open late. Enter through an alley entrance behind the restaurant after 10 and stay till midnight. Van Allen is testing the waters and might but keep the bar's doors unlocked until 2 a.m. on busy nights.
