Vios Owner Launches Omega Ouzeri on 14th Ave.

The Capitol Hill meze concept opens Thursday.

Greek restaurant and bar Omega Ouzeri debuts at 3 p.m. today in Capitol Hill's REO Flats. The concept from Thomas Soukakos (Vios Café & Marketplace, Vios at Third Place) is centered around meze. Twenty different small plates are set at $6, $8, $10, and $12. Two to four make a meal, including cured beef and cheese pie, smoked trout salad with black-eyed peas, and grilled octopus with goat horn chile vinaigrette. The drink list includes ouzo and a full selection of Greek wine; Omega claims it's the only bar in the state that pours the Greek pomace brandy Tsipouro.

Chef Vironas Papatheodorou was born in Portland and grew up in Athens. He worked at kitchens in Greece before returning to PDX to cook at Clarklewis and Olympic Provisions.

The bright, airy space next to the just-opened Nue includes a mezzanine that can be booked for private parties; expect outdoor seating when the weather turns.
