In what is sure to be another busy year for Capitol Hill in terms of restaurant openings, the neighborhood has its first of 2015. Chavez opened over the weekend with its Durango-style tacos, antojitos, and house-made sangria. The restaurant is owned by Trevor Greenwood, who also owns Wallingford's Cantinetta and Madison Valley's Bar Cantinetta.
The 12th Avenue restaurant is headed by chef Gabriel Chavez, who is fresh off a five-year stint with Cantinetta. Chavez, who hails from Durango in northern Mexico, is bringing his hometown's twist on tacos to Seattle.
This staple will rotate, with the opening menu including tacos with mahi mahi and shredded short rib. The restaurant also has a selection of tequila and mezcal and a generous list of antojitos, or appetizers.
