Chippy's GM Sneaks Away for Tacos and Tamales at El Camion

The food truck is Gabe Hodges' go-to secret spot.

Seattle is home to a lot of restaurants, and among them are hidden gems some Seattleites just aren't unearthing. To help guide us to these potential discoveries, we've enlisted some of our city's many food luminaries to share with us their under the radar recommendations for a weekly feature dubbed Dining Confidential.

Gabe Hodges, General Manager for Ethan Stowell's Chippy's, began his career making pizzas at Cucina Presto, where he was promoted to manager after just one week on the job. He later spent time at Italianissmo in Woodinville and Rory's in Edmonds.

When he's got a few minutes to spare, Hodges satisfies his Mexican food cravings at  El Camion food truck.

One of my favorite little go-to spots is the El Camion taco truck on NW 54th Street, right behind Mud Bay in Ballard. I'll shoot over there for a quick plate in the afternoon—sometimes I'll even go over and load up on tacos and tamales to bring back to the staff before service! It’s a fun way to bring everyone together and kick off the night as a group—eating together is what we are here for after all. The adobada (spicy marinated pork) tacos and chicken mole tamales are my favorites.
