Beloved Mexico Food Truck Closes in West Seattle

The truck was a Fauntleroy fixture for 5 years

Bad news, West Seattle and Mexican food fans everywhere. The delightful, delicious Beloved Mexico has been wheeled away from its Fauntleroy location as of this week. After five years serving the community authentic Mexican food, West Seattle Blog reports that they’ve closed up shop forever.

Co-proprietor Christian Guerrero tells WSB that part of Beloved Mexico’s decision was due to the arrival of Chipotle Mexican Grill to the area. Although Chipotle is currently closed due to an E. coli outbreak linked to its food, the arrival of the store within the last two months has affected the food truck’s bottom line.

The food truck’s owners both have day jobs in addition to the restaurant, and have been operating it with the hopes that they’d someday be able to open a brick and mortar once momentum and support expanded. However, financially, it never added up.

The truck was originally located at the site where Whole Foods and The Whittaker mixed use complex are being built. It’s been a fixture at the sidewalk side of West Seattle Produce market for the last four years. Guerrero tells WSB that a permanent spot for a food truck in the neighborhood is hard to find and that he hopes WS will increase their support for small businesses.

Beloved Mexico’s delicious tacos dorados stuffed with flavorful chicken and its mole — made from the owners’ mother’s recipe — helped land it on Eater Seattle’s list of the best Mexican restaurants in Seattle. It will be missed, however the owners have no plans to open somewhere else.
