Wine World, which opened its 23,000-square-foot retail space in Wallingford in 2009, has closed temporarily, and its future prospects look iffy according to the neighborhood blog Wallyhood.
The store, originally the vision of local wine aficionado David LeClaire, has undergone several ownership changes. Wallyhood reports that the latest owner has failed to meet Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board licensing requirements, with problems compounded by over $200,000 in unpaid spirits fees.
Wine World once claimed to have the largest wine selection in the Pacific Northwest, but over the past year its stock has gotten smaller, and this fall it shifted front-of-store displays to emphasize craft beer.
