After soft openings on April 21 and 22, Belltown’s newest bar, Wakefield, opens this afternoon. Eater broke the news of the bar’s arrival on April 8, and, as promised, the owners said are rolling right from soft openings to regular service.
Friends and family packed the bar to get a first taste of Chef Thomas Dodd’s menu. Co-owner Ashley Schindler tells Eater that about half the menu was served at the events, and raves abounded. Especially popular were the chorizo sliders, the cavatelli with housemade sausage, fluffy biscuits with cayenne honey butter, heirloom carrot puree bruschetta, and the pork belly mac ‘n cheese — named for the chef’s boyfriend.
Before Thursday’s opening, there will be some last minute preparation, including attaching mirrors, making adjustments to lighting, screwing in bar hooks, and possibly getting patio furniture set up. Though the last one is no guarantee, just like the weather needed for people to enjoy it…
Wakefield opens for business today, April 23, at 4 p.m. with regular hours from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily. Brunch — which will feature those biscuits in a big way — starts soon after.
