The name is familiar: Fat's Wings and Waffles was the original banner that Marcus Lalario (Li'l Woody's) and Darren McGill (Nate's Wings and Waffles) used for the restaurant they were plotting in Rainier Beach last summer. When the team split amicably, McGill kept the location and opened Nate's (soon to expand to the Central District) and Lalario kept the name. And now, Fat's has rooted anew.
It's not Catfish Corner, but it's going to be in the same tradition for the neighborhood. I'm real big on keeping the spirit of what Catfish Corner was.
Lalario's new restaurant Fat's Fried Chicken and Waffles will fill the old Catfish Corner space in the Central District, and along with its advertised chicken and waffles, Fat's promises to restore soul food "done proper" to the locale. Per Seattle Met: "It's not going to be Catfish Corner but it's going to be in the same tradition for the neighborhood," says Lalario, who lives nearby. "I'm real big on keeping the spirit of what Catfish Corner was."
New Orleans native (and Lalario's pal) Patrick Dours is set for the kitchen so far, and Lalario plans to recruit more culinary talent from the region. He hopes to open the family-friendly Fat's in July or August, starting with dinner service mainly, adding daytime hours later.
