Seattle is home to a lot of restaurants, and among them are hidden gems some Seattleites just aren't unearthing. To help guide us to these potential discoveries, we've enlisted some of our city's many food luminaries to share with us their under the radar recommendations for a weekly feature dubbed Dining Confidential.
Ethan Stowell is a household name in Seattle. His restaurant group includes popular places like Anchovies & Olives, Mkt., Red Cow, Staple & Fancy, and How to Cook a Wolf. He's also currently working on a new restaurant in the Four Seasons hotel to replace ART Restaurant & Lounge.
When he's hankering for tamales, Stowell heads to White Center:
There’s this Mexican butcher shop and grocery store down in White Center, Carniceria El Paisano. They mostly sell meat (a lot of meat!) and groceries, but the real draw for me is the tamales. They’re hands-downs the best I’ve had in or outside of Mexico. They’re amazing! And they sell some great salsas to go along with them too.
