Seattle Kitty Kafe has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund its cat cafe venture, which it hopes to open as early as September. The cafe is seeking $40,000 by the end of May to fund the build-out of their planned University District location.
It appears that by this schedule, Seattle Kitty Kafe will be the second such spot in the city; Seattle Meowtropolitan, which held wildly successful pop-ups in February, has plans to open this summer. Seattle Kitty Kafe is also hosting their version of pop-ups while their Kickstarter runs, by offering "small kitty parties" involving three-hour visits with a bunch of cats, now through the end of May. You provide the space, and the cafe folks provide the felines.
Both cafes will play off a hot trend that started in Asia involving coffee shops filled with free-roaming cats, because that is apparently a thing. Cat cafes have become immensely popular and the concept has expanded around the world.
