Autumn Martin is best known for her sweet creations at Hot Cakes, her popular Ballard shop. Before striking out on her own, Martin served as the Pastry Chef at Canlis from 2002 to 2004 and served as Head Chocolatier for Theo Chocolate.
Martin is currently hard at work opening a second Hot Cakes outpost, coming to Capitol Hill's Olive Way in early summer. When she's not elbow-deep in chocolate, Martin hits up the Latona Pub for a savory palate cleanser.
I love popping down to the Latona Pub after a long day stirring caramel! It’s such a friendly neighborhood spot—there’s always a good vibe there. And you wouldn’t guess it’d be the winning dish on the menu, but the meatloaf is incredible! It’s served with mashed Yukon Golds, savory caramelized onions, and this killer red wine gravy. Such a comforting dish! I can't eat it because it's full of dairy, but it's the thing to order. Their duck confit salad is great too—it’s got this perfect fig dressing and Humboldt Fog goat cheese. Plus, the atmosphere is great and the staff is seriously top-notch!
