Here's What's Coming at Marcus Lalario's Fat's Chicken and Waffles

It's aiming to open in the CD in August.

Bring on the poultry and waffles, Central District. Yesterday Eater brought news that Darren McGill will open his second location of Nate's Wings and Waffles at 12th and E Jefferson the first week in August, and now L'il Woody's Marcus Lalario reports that his Fat's Chicken and Waffles will likely debut in the old Catfish Corner space the same month. (Incidentally, these businesses were originally going to be one, but McGill and Lalario amicably went in their own directions last summer.)

Two months ago when Eater first got word of Fat's, Lalario said that along with the restaurant's advertised chicken and waffles, he planned to restore soul food "done proper" to the locale, and now he elaborates on what it will look like. Expect shrimp and grits, biscuits and gravy, chicken biscuit sandwiches, fried okra, and more in the New Orleans-influenced eatery, along with—oh, yes—catfish.

"I want to keep that going for the corner," Lalario says.

He's also planning on seasonal and daily specials with jambalaya, oyster po boys, and beyond. The 900-square-foot, 30-seat Fat's will have a small service bar with beer, wine, and a few cocktails. Lalario is bringing on Erica White (Purple, Barrio) as the general manager, and right now he expects restaurant hours will run Tuesday to Sunday from 4 to 10 p.m., with brunch on both weekend days.
