Natalie Gjekmarkaj's Byrek and Baguette opened quietly last week at the corner of 12th and E. Columbia (732 12th Ave) inside a former Vietnamese restaurant. Per Capitol Hill Seattle, the Albanian chef's business originally launched as a stand in Bellevue Square mall last November.
Now in her second location on Capitol Hill, she's offering five savory byrek pastries served with yogurt sauce (including spinach, green onions, and ricotta; and leek, egg, and feta cheese), one sweet byrek (with Granny Smith apple, walnuts and caramel sauce), and turkey, veggie, and other sandwiches on baguettes.
Byreks run $4.25 to $4.50, or grab two for $7.49 or one with salad for $5.95. Baguettes are $6.95 each. Hours are currently 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
