Back in May, Gastropod asked its diners to vote for the chef to replace Travis Kukull when he moves to the soon-to-open sibling, Mollusk. Diners attended pop ups to try food from prospective replacements and select their favorite. Chef Kim Sturts garnered the most votes.
A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Struts has cooked at Dahlia Lounge and Harvest Vine, and most recently was Chef de Cuisine at Spaghetti Western. His focus is on locally-sourced and sustainable food.
Sturts will occasionally fill in as a guest chef at Gastropod until September, when he'll be there full time. Mollusk, the South Lake Union brewery-restaurant from Epic Ales brewer Cody Morris and Kukull, is now planning to open in October. Morris will split his time at Gastropod and Mollusk.
