Shingletown
Rejoice, Ballard: the old Anchors Down and Po Dog spaces on Market Street are vacant no more thanks to the new Shingletown Northwest Pub and Eatery, which opened this weekend. My Ballard reports that the new restaurant at 2016 NW Market is from the team behind Ballard Ave's Ballard Loft, and "the construction features both vintage and contemporary aspects that evoke a Shingletown design of the early 1900s," reminiscent of Old Ballard. Check out the seafood-strong menu here (which also includes different deviled eggs rotating daily, sandwiches, and other highlights), and follow the Shingletown Facebook page for more updates.
Refresh FROZEN DESSERTS
Capitol Hill, this sweaty summer just got better in your parts. Refresh Frozen Desserts and Espresso is on the way next month in the old Yogurtland space at 1620 Broadway, which, as Capitol Hill Seattle puts it, properly restores the neighborhood's "fro-yo balance." The new shop by owner Bobby Gaon and his family will serve frozen yogurt, along with Italian ice, sorbets, soft serve custard and soft serve gelato. The coffee will come from the locally based direct trade roaster Kuma Coffee. When the new dessert spot opens by mid August, expect "an extended service counter, bar seating, and a graphic mural by a local artist," says Capitol Hill Seattle.
