EATS MARKET CAFE
Sad news, West Seattle: Toby Matasar's decade-old Eats Market Cafe on Barton will close at the end of this month. Per West Seattle Blog: "According to a site plan filed with DPD for the Eats space, work will be done to change it into Wingstop, on behalf of the local franchisee Rice Wings, owned by former Seahawk Sidney Rice."
Matasar, meanwhile, will redirect her energies to NICHE, her upcoming gluten-free bakery on Capitol Hill. West Seattle Blog reports that Matasar will serve Eats' Spinach Salad and the Veggie Burger at NICHE along with a lot of new fare; check out more details on its website.
SUGAR PLUM
In other Capitol Hill news, star vegan chef Makini Howell will open her new sweet shop Sugar Plum in the former tiny Plum Cafe space on 15th Ave later this month. Per Capitol Hill Seattle: "Howell said to expect "that old school feel of a candy shop" with gluten free, vegan, and dietarily sensitive wonders. 'I want it to be an exciting spot to come have a treat. Imagine amazing, big chocolate chip cookies,' Howell told us last fall. You'll find the aforementioned cookies, bars, brownies, donuts, sweets, soft-serve and more."
