Lucky, lucky you, Central District. On Wednesday Eater brought news that Marcus Lalario's Fat's Chicken and Waffles will officially debut next week (and is soft open as we speak), and now comes word that Darren McGill's Nate's Wings and Waffles is set to soft open its second branch at 1224 E Jefferson tomorrow, with a grand opening also to follow later. (The timing is particularly sweet considering the two restaurants were originally one project before Lalario and McGill parted amicably last June.)
As Eater reported this June, the new 1,600-square-foot Central District Nate's is much bigger than the Rainier Beach outpost that opened last September, and has almost double the seats: 50, including bar seats. McGill's wife and Nate's head chef Kryse Panis Martin-McGill plans to run the kitchen in both outposts for a while, and probably transition to the Central District location eventually. The same solid menu will be available at the new Nate's, and the CD location hopes to pilot brunch soon—possibly as soon as next weekend.
Hours at the new Nate's will be 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, to start, and the team hopes to extend hours on Friday and Saturday (till 2 or 3 a.m.) beginning next month. Doors open at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and get ready for a party. Not only will Nate Robinson, the NBA point guard and Rainier Beach native the restaurant is named for, be there signing autographs and handing out school supplies, shirts, and other giveaways, but deejays will also be on site all day. Nate's is just as badass as ever.
