Holy shutters, Batman. It's been a long holiday weekend and there are several restaurant closings to report in the last week, and in one of the newly vacant spaces, a Capitol Hill opening coming early next year.
First up, Queen Anne Mexican spot La Luna shuttered at the end of August, reports Queen Anne View. Though the business has been for sale in the recent past, there are no current signs of anyone taking over or moving in with a new restaurant yet. In Wallingford, Hawaiian Breeze has also closed according to Wallyhood, and there is no evidence yet of redevelopment for the building.
Finally, on Capitol Hill, the 30-year-old Greek restaurant The Byzantion just shut its doors Sunday, reports Capitol Hill Seattle. It will be replaced with new cocktail bar Spirit Animal, slotted to open by the beginning of 2016 at 601 Broadway E.
"It's always burning back in the back of an aspiring young bartender's mind to have their own place," new Spirit Animal owner Paul Berryman told CHS. He and business partner Izzy Guymon met while bartending at Ballard's Percy's & Co.
Per CHS, the owners are "planning a full 'tear out and rebuild' of the Byzantion space with hopes for a bohemian look and tarot card feel in the new bar that meshes with the 'slightly mystical' half man, half beast spirit of Spirit Animal." Stay tuned for further updates.
