Oh boy, Marination fans: after nearly six months of anticipation, the latest (and largest venture yet) from Kamala Saxton and Roz Edison hits Columbia City this Thursday. Again, Super Six is named for a Hudson Motor Company sedan released in 1948, and is housed in a former automotive garage at at 3714 S Hudson Street. The Marination team calls the vintage car "big enough to fit the family but powerful enough to earn driving respect," which is just the spirit Edison and Saxton are going for in this newest brick and mortar.
Most of the details for Super Six are the same as when we last spoke: Expect Marination-signature Asian dishes incorporating Pacific Northwest staples and elements of American comfort food from executive chef Ryan Doran (most recently sous chef at the Bookstore in the Alexis Hotel) and Ma'ono's Mark Fuller, who has consulted on the opening menu and initial recipe development. Super Six will also offer espresso, a weekend brunch, a full cocktail bar, and a beer garden with loads of outdoor seating.
Kristian Unvericht (opening GM of Tallulah's, manager of Quinn's) will be general manager and Kim Mahar (formerly of RN74) has come on as pastry chef. Doors open at 3 p.m. this Thursday. Regular hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until late, and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. until late. Happy Hour will be Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. Stay tuned for further updates.
