In April, Eater broke the news (and in doing, plenty of hearts) that come September, Wallingford's beloved vegetarian restaurant Sutra would close, to be replaced by apartments. Now comes word from the Sutra team that the last day of the eatery will be Saturday, September 19. Unfortunately they are fully booked until closing, but there are several opportunities, existing and upcoming, to get Sutra-caliber cuisine from both sets of owners.
One pair of owners, Sutra chef Colin Patterson and his partner Amber Tande, are holding a series of pre-funk pop-ups in Belltown at SieMatic (a high-end kitchen showroom) starting October 24 to prepare for their new restaurant, Mana, set to open spring in 2016 in Leavenworth, WA. Find more information here. Per Tande, at the pop-ups expect "an elevated experience of 8-10 courses of local, wild crafted, high vibration fare. While not vegetarian specific, vegan and vegetarians can always expect to be well taken care of."
The other pair of owners, Jan and Aaron Geibel, have recently started serving vegan takeout fare through Harvest Beat in the Wallingford Farmers Market, and according to Wallyhood, they are currently searching for a more permanent (and we hope local) space. Stay tuned for further updates as we get them.
