Tacos Chukis, the Capitol Hill taqueria beloved for its unpretentious deliciousness, has completed a second restaurant that fans have been awaiting since early this year. The company's new eatery opened earlier this week at 810 Dexter Avenue N in ever-expanding South Lake Union.
The new location is a big change for Tacos Chukis, splashier and much easier to find than the Capitol Hill original, which is hidden at the back of the second floor of the dingy Broadway Alley building without a sign or sandwich board to indicate the restaurant's presence.
The SLU spot has bright signs and a prominent location on the ground floor of the flashy new JUXT Apartments building. For the most part, the menu at SLU is the same as that of Capitol Hill, with tacos, mulitas, "baby burritos," quesadillas, tortas, nopal asado (a grilled cactus paddle), and the signature namesake taco with adobada pork, cheese, guacamole, and a slab of grilled pineapple. There will be some rotating specials, too, that are unique to the SLU location.
810 Dexter Ave N, (206) 248-9317, Facebook. Open seven days a week 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
