Dumplings and Pizza Under One Roof, Starting Today in Fremont

China Pie opens at 5 p.m.

Starting today, the court of public opinion will decide whether two very disparate, adored food items — pizza and Chinese dumplings — can peacefully co-exist. China Pie, a mash-up project from Vuong Loc of Pomerol, opens today at 5 p.m.

Loc’s new restaurant is outfitted with a wood-fired oven for seasonal and Asian-inspired pizzas with toppings like caramel fish sauce pork, cilantro pesto, jalapeno, and mozzarella. And then there are the dumplings, served in broth or in chili sauce, as well as seasonal salads. A look at the menu shows the restaurant will dabble in both Italian and Asian flavors:

Loc opened Pomerol in June 2014 after selling his Queen Anne restaurant Portage. Loc was also an owner of Greenwood's Pig 'N Whistle (now The Angry Beaver's home) and Madrona's June (where Ethan Stowell’s Red Cow now lives).

125 N 36th Street, (206) 545-3911, website. Open Sunday to Thursday 5 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 5 to 11 p.m.
