Well, that didn't last long: Ericka Burke's upscale mercantile Canal Market has shuttered. The lovely, light-filled shop in Montlake survived for only nine months, stocking Burke's excellent pastries, coffee, and pricey grocery items.
Burke, with the help of Graham Baba Architects, took over and transformed a former neighborhood bodega into the much fancier (if less practical) Canal Market in 2014, with a much-delayed opening finally coming to fruition in May of last year.
Burke also owns Volunteer Park Cafe and Chop Shop Cafe & Bar, both on Capitol Hill.
