WEST SEATTLE—Ma'ono chef and owner Mark Fuller and Rhino Room partner Patric Gabre-Kidan are opening a bar called New Luck Toy. The "cozy dive," according to Seattle Met, will sit in the former home of Chopstix at 5905 California Ave SW. Fuller will be creating a menu that represents his take on Americanized Chinese food. Look for a June opening.
HILLMAN CITY—Young & Young Smoked Fish Shoppe is in the works in Hillman City next to Eyman’s Pizza, reports the Columbia City Source. Zac and Jesse Young, who have specialized in cold-smoking fresh fish from the Pacific Northwest are behind the venture, which also has a connection to the Wandering Goose on Capitol Hill. Stay tuned for more details.
WA STATE FERRIES—The Washington State Ferries menu is about to get a makeover. Centerplate, the company that runs the concessions at Safeco Field, now holds the contract for the ferry system, and several improvements are underway. The organization will start sourcing food from Northwest brands like Uli's and Beecher's, add local beer and wine, and shorten the lines with more cash registers and grab-and-go food. Some changes will be implemented starting in June, with the rest coming later.
