Pike Place Market Launches Wednesday Evening Market for Locals

Plus Cupcake Royale's farm-fresh ice cream and Shellfish Week at Taylor Shellfish

DOWNTOWN—Starting June 1, Pike Place Market will hold a new Wednesday Evening Market aimed at serving downtown residents and workers. The market will run from 5 to 8 p.m. and will feature more than 20 local produce farmers with tents set up on Pike Place. The Atrium Kitchen also will run a series of classes and demos called At The Table, coinciding with the market and featuring names like Nick Novello of Skillet and Anu Apte of Rob Roy. EVENTWIREGovernor Jay Inslee declared June 4 through 11 Shellfish Week, and Taylor Shellfish is celebrating with a range of events including tours out at its farms,  oyster shucking classes at its oyster bars, and an oyster barbecue by the beach. All events are free. [EaterWire]

DESSERTWIRE—This summer, Cupcake Royale is releasing fresh-churned ice cream with ingredients from local farms. The Farm Fresh Ice Cream Series will focus on farm-sourced fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and herbs, with rolling releases from now until the end of summer.
