Ethan Stowell Restaurants is bringing its Tavolàta concept to Capitol Hill, where a second iteration of the Belltown-born restaurant will soon reside. The group is projecting an opening later this month for the new spot at 501 East Pike Street.
Tavolàta, which opened in 2007, was Stowell's first modern Italian restaurant, showcasing a style on which he's subsequently built a very successful career.
The Capitol Hill version will open in the renovated Dunn Automotive Building at Pike and Summit. Tavolàta, which means "table" in Italian, will have at its center a 16-foot-long communal table, just like the original location. The Capitol Hill table can be separated into two eight-foot sections for smaller groups. Expect the overall feel to skew modern-industrial, with salvaged wood, Douglas fir table tops, and large windows on two sides that will open fully on warm days. There will soon be an outdoor patio on the Summit side that can fit 25 diners.
Naturally, the menu at the Capitol Hill location will be similar to the Belltown original, with extruded pastas, fresh vegetables, and hearty proteins. Chef Addam Buzzalini, who heads the kitchen at the Belltown restaurant, will also oversee the new location.
501 East Pike Street, (206) 420-8355, website. Open daily from 5 to 11 p.m. with happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m.
