Last month, Eater reported on the closing of Central District cult favorite The Barbeque Pit, a fixture at 25th and Cherry since 2010. The flame-bedecked restaurant posted a notice on its doors saying, "The Barbeque Pit will be closing this month. We are relocating."
There's no word on that move yet—The Barbeque Pit posted on its Facebook page, "The relocation plan is about 3 years (at max) out. The new location would still be in the Central District"— but the neighborhood can take solace in a new development for the space.
The flames are gone, but there are signs of life in the building that has housed a barbecue restaurant of one kind or another since the 1950s. Signs on the windows say that tradition will continue with Frank's Smoked BBQ.
That's all the information available at this juncture, but Eater will update as new details on this important development become available.
