DOWNTOWN—An outpost of dumpling darling Din Tai Fung has been in the works at Pacific Place for a while now; Eater reported on the chain's latest expansion back in December. The original projected opening time frame was this summer, but Pacific Place has pushed that back to fall. Meanwhile, you can still line up to scald your greedy mouth on xiao long bao at Din Tai Fung's other two locations in the area, in Bellevue and at University Village.
CENTRAL DISTRICT—Last month, Eater reported on the closing of cult favorite The Barbeque Pit, a fixture at 25th and Cherry since 2010. The flame-bedecked restaurant posted a notice on its doors saying, "The Barbeque Pit will be closing this month. We are relocating." Still no word on that move, but thankfully there have been signs of life in the building, which will continue its tradition, stretching back as far as the 1950s, of housing a barbecue restaurant of one kind or another. Barbecue fans in the CD won't have to wait much longer for Frank's Smoked BBQ to unlock its doors; a sign on the building says the new spot will open on August 4.
