WALLINGFORD—After looking to the Eastside for its 13th outpost (Bellevue), Ezell's Famous Chicken announced on its website that its next location will land in late summer at the corner of N 45th and Corliss Ave in Wallingford. The Wallyhood blog shares a take on the news, including a note about the company's contentious backstory (co-founder Ezell Stephens left with the recipe but without the name, then opened Heaven Sent); a highly positive review of the original Ezell's restaurant ("Let's just say my skepticism faded one bite at a time"); and a warning about the expansion's potential impact (the neighborhood "should brace itself for the crowd, the hype, the 'aroma', and the waste," as Ezell's is known for its reliance on packaged takeout containers).

LONDON—Following a successful overseas launch in Leeds, UK last month, Seattle-based chain Mod Pizza continues its British invasion with planned restaurants in Newcastle, Nottingham, and a London flagship, all slated to open this fall or winter. The company's award-winning founders, Scott and Ally Svenson, are quite familiar with the market, having created cafe chain Seattle Coffee Company in England; they sold their dozens of stores to Starbucks in 1998. Now MOD, a leader in the fast-casual pizza category with its customizable menu and simplified pricing scheme, has more than 100 stores in the US.

U DISTRICT—A sign for Sushi Land has gone up at 4730 University Way, next to newly-opened bubble tea shop Kung Fu Tea. This is likely an expansion from West Coast chain Marinepolis Sushi Land, which already has spots in Queen Anne, Lynnwood, Tukwila, Bellevue, and Redmond. Eater has reached out for confirmation from the parent company.
