Late last week, former New York restaurant power couple Alex and Kevin Pemoulie signed a lease on a space for their forthcoming Mean Sandwich. It will be located at 1510 NW Leary Way in Ballard, next to Peddler Brewing in the old Jolly Roger space.
Eater broke the news in January that the Pemoulies had returned to Alex's native Seattle and were planning to open Mean Sandwich in either Ballard or Wallingford. Now that they have a location nailed down, the restaurant timeline has been updated to an anticipated opening in October.
When last Eater updated the world on the Mean Sandwich front, there was new information on the menu, which Alex says will have a "consistent core sandwich menu that people can rely on," plus specials that will rotate seasonally. She says to expect the following words on the menu: "corned beef, tartare, tendon, buon appetito, salad, skins, Jean Claude, and pickled."
"We've spent the last year fine tuning what we believe to be most the delicious, fun, and unique sandwiches that we could come up with," says Alex. "We are inspired by dishes we've done before, sandwiches we've eaten before, and by the local Pacific Northwest product that we've never had access to before."
