An Illustrated Guide to Seattle's Coolest Ice Cream

Frozen superstars, all

Whether or not the sun is shining, the season demands ice cream. Of course, Eater has a map of Seattle's coolest ice cream shops, and now illustrator Lori Bailey is putting her own unique spin on some of the city's finest frozen treats.

At the time of publishing, the map has 19 points while the artwork features 13. To shorten the list, Bailey says she chose "a combination of places that had particularly interesting flavors and/or styles (like black rice or macaron ice cream sandwiches), classic Seattle ice cream institutions like Molly Moon's and Bluebird, and a few personal favorites" like Marination Ma Kai and Husky Deli, the only places in the drawing that don't show up on the ice cream shop map.

Bailey sketches out her work in pencil followed by ink outlines with a fine-tip pen; she then paints the images digitally. She says if she had to pick other personal favorites on the list, it "might have to be either the Kitty Canutt from Shug's Soda Fountain or the Cookie & Cream in Trove's signature jar." Check out her work below and share your picks in the comments.
