The wait for Anu and Chris Elford’s new Belltown beer bar ends today: No Anchor opens at 11 a.m.
The Elfords, owners of Belltown's beloved Rob Roy, have been crowdfunding two new projects in the neighborhood: not-quite-Tiki maritime cocktail bar Navy Strength, headed by Anu, and eclectic beer bar No Anchor, led by Chris. Both projects will reside in the Legacy Center at 2505 2nd Ave, the corner of 2nd Ave and Wall St, only a block away from Rob Roy.
No Anchor — which held a preview dinner in June and got a shoutout in a Nation's Restaurant News story on maximizing bar efficiency — will serve beers on tap at a precise 42 or 52 degrees depending on the style. Opening menu options include local options like Chuckanut Brewery’s pilsner and Holy Mountain’s Demonteller aged saison, plus intriguing beers from elsewhere, including Baltimore’s Stillwater Artisanal Extra Dry, a saison brewed with rice to mimic sake; a tart gose from Prairie Artisan Ales in Oklahoma; and a Belgian IPA from Belgium’s Brouwerij De Ranke.
Also available are bottled beers, draft and bottled cocktails (all of which include either actual beer or "a traditional beer ingredient"), and a rotating list of spirits, served neat or on a cube.
And beer nerds and newbies alike will welcome the tap list’s flavor chart, which arranges the beers on axes according to four descriptors: approachable, modern, traditional, and esoteric. Stay tuned for details on the bar's full hours.
