Nearly a year after Mamnoon owners Wassef and Racha Haroun announced grand plans to open a rooftop bar in South Lake Union, the opening day is nearly here. MBar makes its debut tomorrow at 4 p.m.
The bar and restaurant sit on the 14th floor of the 400 Fairview building, whose ground-floor market hall is also home to just-opened Bar Harbor FinestKind Provisions along with Meat and Bread, Caffe Ladro, and Juicy Cafe. The forthcoming Kai Market spinoff from Uwajimaya will be located in the market hall, too.
MBar will have Jason Stratton at its helm, who has been the executive chef and general manager at Mamnoon; before that, he was running the show at the celebrated Spinasse.
Expect MBar to serve cocktails and dinner from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. MBar comprises two distinct spaces: a dining room with traditional service, and an outdoor space with a casual bar menu. The outdoor space features its own bar and fire pits, and it's covered and heated for cooler nights.
MBar features several mixed media art pieces and furniture from local, regional, and Lebanese artists. And of course, there's the view, which stretches to the Space Needle, Queen Anne, Lake Union, and Capitol Hill.
Stratton's menu includes items like chilled mussels with grilled pineapple and anchovy; wild mushroom egg custard with dashi and Sichuan peppercorn; and roasted cauliflower hummus with tahini, rice beans, ghee, and allspice.
