Chef Monica Dimas, who has made a name for herself running Neon Taco, Sunset Fried Chicken Sandwiches, and Tortas Condesa, is readying two new openings this fall. She’ll open highly-anticipated Little Neon Taco on First Hill, and will take over the walk-up window most recently housing Manu’s Bodegita on Capitol Hill with Westman’s Bagels and Coffee.
It looks as if the first opening will be Westman’s Bagels will be the first opening, perhaps coming by late October, reports the Capitol Hill Times. For this, Dimas is partnering with Molly Westman, a Macrina baker and bagel expert. The two will serve lox, a selection of schmears, bacon and eggs on a kaiser roll, and Challah bread on Fridays.
The space at 1509 E. Madison was the longtime home of Little Uncle, before it moved into a slightly bigger space down the street. Next came the short-lived Manu’s Bodegita, which closed in May; the window has been dark since.
Little Neon Taco — which will actually be Dimas’s biggest restaurant — will come before Thanksgiving if construction stays on track. The spot at 1011 Boren Avenue on First Hill will be open for lunch, dinner, and (eventually) weekend brunch, with tacos, tortas, and other Mexican specialties.
