Witness the Cream-Filled Chaos at 85°C Bakery

Hours-long lines have formed even during the soft opening

85°C Bakery Café management suggested they were hoping for a quiet opportunity to train staff and ramp up to full operations at the Taiwanese chain’s latest expansion at the Southcenter Mall in Tukwila, but eager fans made short work of that plan. As has been true at the company’s other locations in California and beyond, the hours-long lines formed as soon as word got out that a soft opening had begun. Flip through the photos to get a hint of the action.

If for some reason you haven’t yet been one of the hundreds each day patiently awaiting a chance to scarf down low-priced pork buns, squid ink rolls, Black Forest cake, and more sweet and savory baked goods, then be advised that today marks 85°C’s official grand opening, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. and a 10-cent medium iced sea salt coffee for every customer. That is to say, things aren’t likely to die down anytime soon — maybe bring a book.

Open Monday to Thursday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday to Saturday 7 a.m. to 12 a.m., Sunday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
