The Frelard restaurant space formerly occupied by barbecue beauty Bourbon and Bones will return to action next week as Big Mario’s Pizza. The latest outpost for the mini-chain will celebrate its grand opening next Saturday, April 22, starting at 4 p.m. The first 100 customers will be rewarded with free slices.
Bourbon and Bones closed without a note this winter. In February, Mike McConnell, David Meinert, and Jason Lajuenesse announced they planned to replace it with their third Big Mario’s. The brand has operated a pizzeria on Capitol Hill since summer 2010 and another on Queen Anne since fall 2015.
Expect the same experience in Frelard as at the other two locations, with New York-style pizza and a divey lounge atmosphere with throwback vibes. Pizza will be available by the slice and in whole pie form, and often with novelty toppings for special occasions, like a “green leaf pie” (pesto, roasted garlic, jalapeños, mozzarella, and arugula) for $4.20 per slice on April 20.
4350 Leary Way NW, website. Open Sunday to Thursday 4 p.m. to 12 a.m., Friday and Saturday 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.
