After a few weeks of soft openings, a new Capitol Hill offshoot of local chainlet Seattle Coffee Works is holding its grand opening on Memorial Day (Monday, May 30) with incentives like free coffee and other treats.
The opening at 907 E. Pike Street will be the company’s third cafe — the other two are in Ballard and downtown. The so-called Capitol Coffee Works will specialize in the company’s light-roasted style, which brings out the flavor nuances of the fruit and offers a higher caffeine kick.
But the new cafe will have a few unique twists, including tropical plants and a mural of coffee-growing regions. In addition, patrons will have the rare opportunity to sample products made in-house from cascara, the dried skins of the coffee cherry that usually go to waste. Capitol Coffee Works serves a “cascara fizz” soda, plus chocolates made with cascara and cocoa butter.
Customers that pop in between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Memorial Day will score free coffee and cascara chocolates, and the first 200 customers will nab a $10 Coffee Works gift card.
