Roving ice cream sensation Sweet Bumpas has put down permanent roots in Georgetown. Owner and pastry chef extraordinaire Matt Bumpas took over the former home of Six Strawberries in May, and is now serving frozen treats from the window.
“I'm so happy to finally be done with commissary kitchens, and have a place to call home,” Bumpas tells Eater. “It’s very much a work in progress. I really wasn’t expecting all of this to happen so soon.”
The location at 6564 5th Ave. S. now serves as Sweet Bumpas’s catering kitchen and ice cream shop. Bumpas is still scooping at seven farmers markets and balancing a catering schedule. “For now, we have the industry's most ridiculous schedule,” he says.

Sweet Bumpas is known for rotating through unorthodox flavor combinations like blackberry vanilla, pandan and lime, cinnamon basil and corn cookie. Along with seasonal ice cream flavors, made with local produce aplenty and organic Smith Brothers milk, patrons can also sip Soda Jerk Soda, which is sharing the space. For now, the window is slinging scoops and pints on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
