Forward-thinking pastry fans (or professional line-sitters) may want to start queuing at 18700-A 33rd Ave. W. in Lynnwood, the planned site of 85°C Bakery Café’s next expansion. When it opens in mid-August across from the Alderwood Mall, upping the food court game along with a recent Caliburger addition and an upcoming Midici outpost, the Lynnwood cafe will be Washington state’s second, but “certainly not last” 85°C, according to a rep.
The red-hot Taiwanese chain just opened its 31st location in the U.S., a Houston shop that marked the company’s 1000th location worldwide. Diners are drawn to tea and coffee drinks like the signature iced sea salt coffee, as well as affordable fresh pastries and sweet breads (i.e. brioche breads that are sweet, infused with honey, mango, and more — not “sweetbreads,” like the organ meat of cows or sheep).
The lines at 85°C at the Southcenter Mall in Tukwila seem to have calmed, but it’s a safe bet the new store north of the city will bring the crowds again.
Correction: This story has been corrected to clarify that 85°C Bakery Café will be opening across the street from the Alderwood Mall, not in its food court.
