Pike Place Market Chocolate Maker Expands With New Cafe and Factory

Indi Chocolate, Pike Place Market’s bean-to-bar producer, has traded up from its nook on the fifth floor for much bigger digs inside the prominent new Marketfront expansion. The large new space opening today includes a central coffee bar selling espresso, baked goods, and chocolate, plus a retail area with windows looking into the production area.

Indi Chocolate, founded by Erin Andrews in 2010, prides itself on buying single-origin chocolate directly from farmers, and also sells products like tea, spice rubs, and body care products made from cocoa butter. Its cafe and retail area will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the upgrade will also allow the company to offer chocolate-making seminars and other classes.

The Marketfront addition to Pike Place Market opened at the end of June after two years of construction. It replaces a surface parking lot below the market's North Arcade crafts vendors with 30,000 square feet of open public space, 47 new table spaces for farmers and craftspeople, 40 low-income senior housing units with seven live/work artist units, and spaces for food businesses Old Stove Brewing Co., Little Fish, and Honest Biscuits, all of which will open later this year.
