After a long absence, Toshiyuki Kawai has announced he’ll try to reopen his acclaimed Mount Baker restaurant, Japanese-French fine-dining fusion Iconiq, by the third week or the last week of November.
It’s been more than a year since Kawai closed Iconiq, which is longer than the restaurant was open in the first place — it opened in early 2017 in the former home of A La Bonne Franquette, at 1421 31st Ave. S. Iconiq quickly won over critics with its warm vibe and unique, high-end blend of French and Japanese cuisines.
Kawai initially said he had to deal with a family emergency in Japan before revealing he had a personal health issue he felt was better treated in his home country. The shutter was always intended to be temporary, so it’s good to see that was indeed the case here.
