Cloud Nine’s Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream Shop Hits Southcenter

Cloud Nine Creamery is readying its liquid nitrogen ice cream shop inside the Westfield Southcenter Mall for a February 16 opening. Situated between Sears and Din Tai Fung, the creamery makes ice cream through a rapid liquid nitrogen freezing process that customers can watch through floor-to-ceiling glass walls. Cloud Nine will celebrate its opening with several promotions and specials for nine days beginning on the 16th.

Cloud Nine’s customers will order by first choosing a waffle bowl, cone, or cup to fill with ice cream made from a milk, yogurt, or vegan coconut base, with flavors like strawberry, raspberry, lychee, cake batter, and Nutella. From there, a wide selection of mix-ins can be added, including candy, fruit, cookie crumbles, and nuts.

Customers can also opt for a Cloud Nine-designed combination like New York cheesecake, Ube cheesecake, and rotating seasonal options. There will even be a “Chips and Cream” sweet-and-salty pick that riffs off of french fries dipped in soft serve. French fries will also be available, either on their own or for dipping purposes. Various sauces, shakes, fountain sodas, and coffee are on the menu, as are products from several other Northwest businesses, including cheesecake, brownies, and apple pie from Alki Bakery and coffee from Caffe D’arte.

Liquid nitrogen ice cream, with its showy, smoky production process, is said to be creamier, thanks to rapid freezing that keeps large, crunchy ice crystals from forming.

Cloud Nine will kick off nine days of promotions and freebies starting February 16:

Friday, February 16: Nine random winners will receive one year of free ice cream if they find a golden ticket on the bottom of their cup.

Saturday, February 17: The first nine customers will receive a free regular ice cream.

Sunday, February 18: All customers will receive a free sauce syringe to top off their ice cream.

Monday, February 19: All customers will receive a free size upgrade.

Tuesday, February 20: Customers will receive one free mix-in with the purchase of a regular ice cream.

Wednesday, February 21: Customers will receive a free waffle bowl with any ice cream purchase.

Thursday, February 22: Customers who purchase a shake will receive a free mix-in.

Friday, February 23: Buy-one, get-one free on strawberries and cream waffles.

Saturday, February 24: Customers receive a free chocolate-dipped waffle bowl with any ice cream purchase.
