Owner Paul Shanrock’s upcoming Fremont bar, Stampede Cocktail Club, has set an opening date of May 1, right in line with the estimate he gave in March when he first announced he was taking over the former home of the Helm (N 36th St.). Shanrock also revealed that the bar will be serving its cocktails alongside dumplings made on-site.
As opposed to the somewhat nautical theme of the Helm, Stampede’s aesthetic is fairly freewheeling and eclectic. Stampede’s official Facebook page is mostly dormant, but its Instagram account is updated frequently, and shows a “parlor” room wallpapered in a way that evokes tiki with its bold green tropical foliage, a “saloon” dimly lit with colored chandeliers, and tin ceiling tiles looking mighty old-timey.
Shanrock, whose most recent roles were at Hotel Theodore’s Rider downtown and Ballard’s Joli, told Eater, “Stampede cocktail club is going to be your destination spot for vibrant cocktails, delicious dumplings, and off-world tech,” though he wouldn’t reveal the secrets of his otherworldly technology. He also promised, “It’s going to be extremely jiggy,” and an Instagram video from last week — with the caption “Just got that liquor license flow” and clips of Shanrock and crew dancing — supports the claim. Eater will share more details as they come.
