This spring, North Star Diner and Shanghai Room — the 24/7 diner and karaoke lounge in Greenwood that food celebrity Anthony Bourdain loved last fall in the penultimate episode of Parts Unknown, Season 10 — added a full-service, 50-seat patio behind the restaurant. At the corner of Greenwood Ave. N and N 87th St., the outdoor space is open whenever weather permits for breakfast, brunch, lunch, happy hour, dinner and drinks until 2 a.m.
“It’s brand new, colorful, tucked away, and frankly, it’s the fanciest part of the restaurant,” said co-owner Kato Lombardi of the new addition to her business. Picnic tables pop with pastel pinks, yellows, and greens, and black umbrellas provide a bit of protection from the sun. The full bar and full menu are available outside, and there are even some patio-only drink specials. It looks like the perfect place to grab a Shanghai Sling and chicken-fried steak and eggs at nearly any hour of the day or night.
