Attention, fans of flavorful fare with ample peanuts: Wild Ginger opens up its new location this weekend, in the McKenzie luxury apartment building in South Lake Union.
Taking over an airy space in the ground floor of the building, location number three for the restaurant will partly center around a large satay bar, where meat skewers aplenty will be grilled and served up with sauces — the satay offerings at Wild Ginger McKenzie will be more substantial than at the downtown Wild Ginger, or the Bellevue location.
The new space will serve some of the same east and southeast-Asian-tinged dishes as the original, but is branching out further west across that continent for menu inspiration here — chef Gihan Ernest will reportedly add some southern Indian flavors to the menu, although it’s not yet clear what form those will take . While Wild Ginger is known for its hefty wine list, the SLU edition will also focus on cocktails — all the better for its happy hour, which will launch a few days after opening.
Wild Ginger opens Saturday (August 18) at 2202 8th Avenue (corner Blanchard) — dinner service only, with happy hour and patio seating arriving August 22, and lunch from August 27.
